Construction 2026 — home energy efficiency

· Paweł Wójtowicz

Each year brings new challenges and changes to the construction industry that reflect our concern for the natural environment and also introduce new standards for our homes. The 2021 Technical Conditions are regulations that oblige us to build homes with the lowest possible demand for primary energy. What does this mean for investors? What is new, and how should you prepare to build in line with the new requirements?

Zero-energy — the goal on the horizon

The most important objective of the 2021 Technical Conditions is to strive for zero-energy buildings. This means that new homes are to generate as much energy as they consume, while minimising the use of primary energy.

Rules for all new buildings

The 2021 Technical Conditions apply to all newly built homes whose building permits were issued after 31 December 2020.

Energy efficiency front and centre

One of the main points of the changes is limiting the demand for non-renewable primary energy (EP) to a target of 70 kWh/m² per year.

Photovoltaics as an energy source

Photovoltaics is becoming a key element of building homes in line with the new requirements.

Insulation and windows — key elements

Effective thermal insulation of buildings is crucial to meet the new standards. Windows with a heat transfer coefficient (U) of no more than 0.9 W/m²K are essential.

Renewable energy sources — the solution of the future

The new regulations promote the use of renewable energy sources. Installing heat pumps, solar collectors or solar systems is becoming increasingly cost-effective.

Support for investors

To meet the new construction requirements, investors can take advantage of various programmes and subsidies, such as “Clean Air” (Czyste Powietrze).

In conclusion, the new Technical Conditions are a challenge, but above all an opportunity to build homes that are friendlier to the environment and more economical.
